Between layers let the paint set at least overnight before you add another layer.
Oil Painting cannot be completed in one day.
It can take up to two weeks to properly paint the skin and achieve the true reborn look you desire.
Once completely painted it takes another 2 weeks or so to dry.
Some types of vinyl's really Grab the paint, as soon as you touch it, and it just doesn't` want to move or blend.
If you put too much paint on something, and you know you've made a mistake, try to remove it with a dab of mineral spirits on a clean brush.
The paints can usually be remove right away, but if left overnight you could have a problem.
Every hour that goes by the vinyl becomes less forgiving.
Remove your mistakes as soon as you make them.
Even if it is necessary to clean off everything and start all over again.
Painting is the fun part of Reborning, and once you
have gained a little experience you will look forward
to all the endless possibilities of color and textures.

Begin by practicing on the sole of a foot
When you dip into the paint go lightly
See how just a light touch can paint the area nicely.
If you think you have added a bit too much paint, try a clean stiff brush, and brush it off and smooth out the excess with a soft cloth.
Now you can shade in between the little toes with a small brush.
Take some paint from one of the shades you have made.
Try another color combination.
Maybe something a bit darker.
Experiment...have fun.
But always paint light layers to add depth to the skin.
It will take a few layers to get the desired look of newborn skin.
Once you feel comfortable painting this way it will really show in your babies.
Continue adding more layers of paint as needed over the next few days.
Letting them dry overnight in between and allow the paints to soak into the vinyl.
The more time you pay attention to detail areas the more life like the skin will appear when you are finished.
You can see in the photos there is no sign of shiny oils or anything just setting on top of the skin.
Anyone that says this happens when they use oil paints are not using them the right way.
Linseed oil will always show up as a shiny surface.
Notice around the toes and creases the paints look darker.
Depth is created by the darker shades below.
Gradually lightening up the paint on the top layers.
This is what it will look like when there has been
too much paint applied all at once
When you realize this has happened you'll want to immediately remove the excess.
Try a clean stiff brush or soft lint free cloth.
If you have to remove the paint completely use a bit of Mineral Spirits to take it off and start again.
Painting is the most important part of Reborning, and the one that takes the longest to bring a baby to life.
To build a reputation as a top Reborner and keep your collector's coming back for more, you must learn to paint for lasting beauty, not a flash in the pan.
It is time consuming to create a work of art.
You should be starting to get a better feel for the paint now,
and how is takes to the vinyl.
You will paint every square inch of
the vinyl in the same way.
You are now ready to start Painting the Head
If you are using a wig on the head you will not have to paint the scalp.
If you plan to root the head, you must now paint the base coat for the scalp and face, and any details you want to show up on the scalp.
This includes any veining you might want to add.
Once the head is rooted you will not want to get paints on the mohair.
Paint an all over pale blush for the basic undertone of the head and face skin.
This is very important or the baby will look like it is wearing a mask if you paint the face only and the color stops at the hair line.
You want everything to look natural.
You will do your final facial coloring and details after the rooting.
You must have the base tone over all the head before rooting.
You can begin with the ears.
Using your finger tip for the light blushing on the outer rim areas of the ears.
You`ll be surprised to see how much painting you do with your finger tips.
Its always good to do a wipe or two on a cloth or paper towel before you put that paintbrush on any part of the vinyl.
Remember this is called Dry Brush Painting for a reason.
It allows for the most control while painting the skin.
With this method you will never have streaking, or unever staining like you will with other methods.
As you can see Berenguers as well as silicone vinyl
can be painted using the Dry Brush Technique.
Pay special attention to the creases and crevices.
You'll never look at another Reborn the same way after this class.
You will be able to spot all the mistakes and errors many Reborner's make while painting.
Most don't really paint, only blush the obvious.
They have not learned the secrets to beautiful skin.
Or how to add real depth to their painting layers.
It is possible to do most of the painting before rooting without fear of removing the paint and messing up the face.
You can do the final details around the eyes after the rooting is finished.
If you are using a wig you can finish all the detailing first.
